114 : Yellow lily 3/4

A lot of times when I shoot the yellow lilies and it's sunny out, the petals will turn out bright white, so I was pleased to see that the color held in this shot and captured a true yellow. Love the diagonal green highlight in the back.

113 : Dried lily

Got home a bit late tonight, so slim pickings on the flowers still left out in the sun. Went to go shoot the lilies, and got just a couple of this dead head, but really liked how it turned out. Love the colors and texture on it, but got a nice cool neutral backdrop for this one. Love all the curling of the petals.

112 : Old and young lily bloom

I think the dead and dried up blooms are just as interesting as the live ones... they have some great vein textures in them, and I think the dark purple and beige of the bloom/leaves are pretty interesting. Glad I managed to get this shot before Jill deadheaded all the flowers out front!

111 : Early lucifers

I'm sure I'll be shooting these plenty in the coming weeks, but thought the colors on it were already pretty interesting. It's like they have a little yellow stripe running along the bugs. Thought the symmetry between the one in the foreground and the one in the background was a interesting touch.

110 : Pink flower bloom

The 'bell' type blooms seem to be popping up... and these also just happened to be in front of the day lilies. Love how painterly the backdrop turned out... glad I was able to get some more sun today... sure makes the colors pop.

109 : Orange flowers on yellow

Just really liked the colors in this one. Now that the tiger lilies are on the way out, I'm glad that these little blooms are still holding strong. Thought the yellow and green of the day lilies made for a perfect backdrop.

108 : Lilypad leaves

Kind of gray out when I got home and these leaves caught my eyes. Just liked the shape of them and the pattern on the veins. Can't wait for these to bloom so I can get some shorts of these leaves with some color.

107 : Lavender lily

Now that the tiger lilies are on their way out, I was glad to see the lavender ones are blooming. Love all the colors in this shot from the yellow and purple of the plant, to the green and teal of the grass and hose respectively. Love the texture of the pedals.

106 : Tiger lily stamen

Seems like the tiger lilies are already on their way out, so hope to get a few more shots of them. Just liked this one with the focus on the stamen and the flower as a backdrop... think the green adds some nice color too.

105 : Dragonfly on rock

Followed this dragonfly for a few minutes out front and got a handful of shots of it. Really liked how this one turned out... just his blue highlights on a gray weathered rock, and some brown bark up the to left in the distance. Hope to get a dragonfly on a more colorful subject next time!

104 : Stem sihlouettes

Hard to believe tomorrow is the first day of summer... cold and wet here again, so had to settle for another dark shot. Just found this one bit poking up over the shed, with a hint of the clematis bloom on the right. Liked the depth of the image... think it turned out pretty crisp considering I had to use the manual focus just to get the leaf sharp.

103 : Old-fashioned cloud

Actually rained most of the day... then got home really late... almost 8. It was still overcast then, but about 8:30 the sun finally broke and I managed to get a few shots of this orange sky. Love how the colors turned out in this shot... reminds me of a sunset picture in an old book.

102 : Three orange roses

Another overcast evening... seems like the days are nice, then clouds roll in just before I get home. I did manage to get some shots in the back of the roses with just enough light. Sure gives the roses a different feel without the sun hitting them.

101 : Clematis branch

Although it was pretty nice during the day, it was nothing but overcast once I got home. Decided to go out back and see if the clematis was blooming yet, but nothing but branches and buds at this point. Still made for a neat shot against the gray sky.

100 : Tiger lily against stems

Really pleased with how this one turned out. The colors turned out great, and glad I was able to get the stamen in focus on this shot. Just loved that this bloom was flat and that the stamen were poking out above it... love how they look against the green stems of the next plant over.

099 : Rosebud with light

I really like how the lighting turned out in this one. There was just enough light poking through the trees to give the rose some good color, and the leaf a nice texture. And love how the lighting in the background turned out, with the brightness radiating from the center of the bud. One of those times where I felt like I was in the right place at the right time.

098 : Bee on lily

Was out front shooting when I heard a buzzing. Tracked this guy down to a nearby lily and took a handful of shots of it. Wish I could have gotten a bit closer in, bit think there's some detail on the bee... some fuzz on its back, and an interesting shape on his back leg. Glad the sun finally came out... seems like is been awhile.

097 : Orange rose

Just wanted to get a picture of a rose before it fully bloomed. Wish there was some sunlight today, but at least it was just bright enough to get a fairly crisp shot.

096 : Squirrel through screen

This one turned out pretty interesting. The young squirrel came up to our screen door, so we tossed him a walnut, but we have to keep the screen door closed or else they just wander into the house. I hoped he was far enough from the screen that I could simply shoot through it, but looks like the edges of the shot have some diamond pattern to them... think it turned out pretty interesting though. Love hot the deck turned out to be a white backdrop. Blogspot was down last night when I tried to post, so consider this post as Friday's!

095 : Tiger lily blooms

Really liked how this one turned out. I wish it had been a bit sunnier, but I think the colors popped out pretty well nonetheless. Think it's interesting how differently colored the blooms can be. Glad there was at least one open to get in the frame. I can't wait until all those blooms finally open.

094 : Little yellow flowers

I'm not really sure if these flowers are dandelions or not... but either way there's a patch of these growing up in the back yard. Just loved the specs of yellow against the green. Love the depth on all the different stems, and love how the backdrop has a painted look to it.

093 : Copper rimmed leaf

Just loved how this leaf looked in the sun. The leaf itself I think is great, especially with the hint of red along the border. Love how the left side turned out, and the shade from another leaf along the right hand side... think the shapes in there turned out pretty nice.

Monday, June 8, 2009

092 : Shaded rose bud

Normally I'm not a big fan of shooting items when they're in the shade, but I was pretty pleased with how this one turned out. Glad that the color of the buds turned out even though the sun had already passed them by. Hopefully next week I'll be able to get some open rose shots.

091 : Tiger lily

It was quite the surprise to come home and see these tiger lilies in full bloom. Just had to get a photo of it, especially with the tiny raindrops on it. Just love the colors in this one... even the greens in the right/backdrop turned out pretty sharp.

090 : Dead tree silhouette on sunset

Every now and then I'll get a shot in which I don't think I'd want to change a thing, and this is one of those shots. Despite being past sunset, the colors turned out strong and vivid, and yet the tree turned out pretty crisp. Love all the layers of clouds, from the plane trails and soft bright clouds, so the dark layer of clouds on the bottom border. I had to trek halfway along one of the Eagle Crest golf fairways to get to this shot, but it sure was worth it!

089 : Mossy trunk

Fortunately the next day we had some blue sky and I managed to get out with the camera for awhile. The thing about shooting out in the high desert is that there wasn't a lot of color to be found... most plants/trees are green and some version of light brown, combined with the blue sky, so I felt pretty lucky to stumble across this tree trunk. Love the texture and color the moss adds to the shot... even that little bit in the top right corner.

088 : Branches on blue

The first night there we had terrible weather, but I did manage to find a little window during the evening to go out and shoot. It was a bit dark out, and just liked how these branches wound about, especially the ones around the edges.

Short break

I'm on vacation for a couple days, so I doubt I'll be able to post anything new until Sunday. I'll be sure to put up my 4 best shots when I return though to make up for those days... later!

087 : Conical leaf on big leaf

I could probably shoot this plant every day because it's so bright and I love all the patterns and shapes it provides. Just likes this one with the inner leaf and the brown rim around the top.

086 : Day lily bloom

Seems like the day lilies are one of the few things with any color in the front yard now that the dogwood pedals and most of the rhododendron are gone. Really like the colors, and how the shadowed sidewalk in the backdrop turned out a dark blue/gray. Loved the shadows on the bloom, and those two green stalks in the top in the distance.

085 : Leaf silhouette

Pretty gloomy out by evening, and not much light to work with. Glad I haven't had to get too many dark shots like this lately, but I think this one turned out fairly interesting. Just love the depth on the three leaves, and the blue/gray of the sky.
