146 : Orange flower with purple

I took an 'opposite' photo of this one a few days ago, with the horse tail as the subject and this orange flower as the backdrop. Thought the orange looked pretty sharp in the sun and thought to shoot it against the purple. Really love how vibrant the colors turned out.

145 : White daisy splotches

Not sure why some daisy have these little white patches on some of their petals, but I think they help add a little extra something to the flower. Love the texture of the petals... think the shadows really help out with that thanks to the low angle.

144 : Purple curled petal

Really love how the petal turned out on this one with the color and the texture. Think the dim yellow turned out pretty interesting, and love the softly striped backdrop. These day lilies always seem to be blooming... hope the sunflowers start showing some yellow soon!

142 : Lucifer on yellow

Thought I'd get another shot of the lucifer... this time against the yellow daisies. Plus, it was too hot to wander too far from the front door! Love the red against the yellow.

141 : Horse tail on orange

The horse tail has quite a bit more bloom on it, and love how the color looks against the bright orange of the plant behind it. Love the texture on the horse tail as well... it's a pretty unique plant for sure.

140 : Dried day lily on bright backdrop

Really like how this one turned out. It's not often I'll forgo a lit subject to one in the shade, but thought I'd try it out with this dried day lily. Really like how the day lily turned out cool against the vibrant backdrop.

139 : Critters on daisy

Guess bees don't mind spiders as much as people mind spiders... or bees for that matter. The spider was just hanging out while the bee crawled all over the core. And those might be the longest legs on a spider I've ever seen! Like all the different yellows in this shot.

138 : Shriveled lucifer buds

It's a shame the lucifer blooms don't last longer... didn't seem like I got a lot of good shots of them (the red always turns out too hot) but really liked how this one turned out. The red of the top bloom looks pretty sharp, and has a neat texture to it. Like how the bottom one is a bit darker and hanging down, and glad the backdrop turned out so bright.

137 : Bee on horse tail

The bees were out in full force today... probably a six or eight buzzing around the front walkway. Really liked this big one crawling around the horsetail... think the bright purple goes nicely on the blue, with a little yellow thrown in. Like the detail on the bee... especially those spindly legs!

136 : Day lily curl

Really love some of these curled petals on the day lilies. Not only does the texture on the petal seem to sparkle, but the furling and curling of the petal gives it a pretty interesting shape. Think the colors turned out pretty vibrant in this one... especially the green in back and the yellow of the stamen.

135 : Peach daylily up close

There was a nice peach day lily out front, so I thought I'd get a bunch of shots of it... but none of them turned out how I thought they would. This one turned out a bit dark, and a bit soft towards the back, but I think it has a nice affect, and really captured the color of the bloom... especially the yellow around the middle.

134 : Purple horse tail on yellow

Really like how this one tuned out. Wanted to get a nice detailed shot of the top of the horse tail (the bottom hasn't bloomed yet) and found a patch of yellow daisies that worked great as a colorful backdrop. Hope to get more photos of these as the summer progresses.

133 : Purple star flowers

Took this photo out in Sisters in my mom's backyard. Had a bunch of wildflowers back there, in all sorts of different colors! Liked these pruple flowers against the green and yellow... not much more to it than that!

132 : Young lucifers

Saw these little blooms blooming, but still near the stalks of the lucifers and just really liked the colors.

131 : Lavendar buds on green

I took this shot in the morning, which is the only time this plant gets any sunlight on it at all. Really like how it turned out... the different shapes on the buds and the little white curls that poke out of them... all on a leafy bright green backdrop.

130 : Yellow spider on daisy

Just saw this spider on this flower and thought it made for an interesting shot. Glad it was in front of the brown center or else I might not have seen it! Like how bright the backdrop turned out with the shadowed foreground.

129 : Speckled rust lily

Took this shot over at a friend's house. The lilies over there had a brown-rust freckling to them... really pretty cool. Just love the warm yellows and browns of all parts of the flower... and glad there was a nice neutral backdrop as to not to detract from the flower.

128 : White flower on red

Love how the backdrop turned out on this one. Liked the clean colors of the white flower against the bright red of the lucifer backdrop. It was nice to finally have some sun out once I got home... looks to be a nice day tomorrow also!

127 : Shadowed lily

Another overcast day, but still think the colors in this one turned out pretty interesting. I love the bright leaves against the dark green backdrop, and all the curls and texture of the petals.

Sunday, July 12, 2009

126 : Raindrops on striped leaf

It spent half the day raining, so I didn't get to far from the front door. I did think this shot turned out pretty interesting, with all the droplets on the leaf, and all the reflections off them. That striped leaf sure made for an interesting platform for all those drops... especially the big one on the left.

125 : Yellow lily against sunset

It was pretty overcast when I went out to shoot this morning, so decided to wait to see if the sun cleared... but then didn't get back out to take a shot until sunset! Managed to get this lily in front of the sunset... love the orange glow in the background.

Friday, July 10, 2009

124 : Dried purple bud

No sun again this evening, but just enough light to keep the colors bright. Just loves this bud against the cool blue backdrop. Love the vein-y texture of the petals, and think the bloom on the left adds a little color.

123 : Bee on daisy

Followed this bee around for a couple minutes, but he kept pretty close the the daisies. Liked how crisp the bee and the center of the flower turned out, which the one in front adds some perspective. Glad the sun was out because it sure brings out that yellow.

Wednesday, July 8, 2009

122 : Pink daisy in shade

Another overcast day, but enough light out to still get a crisp shot. Just really liked this flower from the side... the texture color variations in the petals, and the green and yellow backdrop.

Tuesday, July 7, 2009

121 : Lucifer on green

Had even worse luck with the sun today than yesterday, but did manage to get this shot before the clouds rolled in. Just love the reds and yellows against the warm green.

Monday, July 6, 2009

120 : Pink flower bloom

Only got about six shots before the sun went behind the clouds, but fortunately this was one of them. Really like how the colors turned out, and how the stem blends into the backdrop. Love the texture and layering of the petals.

Sunday, July 5, 2009

119 : Lily on blue

I was out shooting the red day lily and noticed a spot of blue showing up in the backdrop. Turns out it was someone's recycling bin already on the curb for pickup. Thought it make a great contrast to the red and yellow of the day lily bloom. Not often I can get all the primary colors in a shot.

Saturday, July 4, 2009

118 : Flat peach lily

Seems I'm on a bit of a lily kick, but they have some amazing colors and textures they're hard to pass up, and often turn out to turn out better than shots I take of other plants. This one was of a new peach colored bloom. Just like the warm and muted tones in this shot... from the light peach petals to the earthy green backdrop. Love the texture on the stamen.

117 : Left side lily

Really loved how the colors turned out in this one... had some nice overhead sun, which really helps bring out the yellow at the bottom of the bloom... had a neat yellow glow to it. Certainly goes well with the purple and green.

PS - Sorry for the late post... went camping on Friday!

Thursday, July 2, 2009

116 : Lucifer on blue

So the Lucifer is finally starting to bloom. It seems to start blooming at one end, and gradually work its way down the line. Just love the bright red against the blue... with a touch of yellow thrown in at the base of the buds.

Wednesday, July 1, 2009

115 : Purple lily on warm blue

Really like how this one turned out. Wanted to get the brightness of the flower against the pale blue and yellow of the grass behind it... think the backdrop turned out pretty interesting for sure. Love all the different directions of the petals and the light/shadows on them.
